About us

Dingir-ra is a small hobby kennel near Tartu, Estonia. I have had dogs my whole life, my first purebred was a rough collie bitch. She had one litter from where I kept a dog puppy. I did obedience and shows with them and started with my handling career. While working in Longbody's kennel in Denmark in 2004, I fell in love with cavaliers. Used to work with a working breed, these little toy spaniels seemed true sunshine dogs to me - always happy, friendly with everybody, active, but yet decorative. Longbody's dogs were also very beautiful and healthy and my first image of a perfect cavalier was largely based on the cream of that kennel. It took me another 4 years of research and planning to decide to start up as a breeder again, this time with cavaliers.

Year 2008 marks the beginning of my collaboration with Heli Järvet and Helandros kennel in Estonia. Heli was the first and most important cavalier breeder in Estonia, most of our other breeders have started off with dogs from her breeding. My first bitches and my first import males were co-owned with her and this teamwork was a great learning experience for me. In 2019, our ways parted and these days, I mostly co-operate with like minded breeders all over the world who prioritize cavaliers' health above anything. In addition to cavaliers, there is a Czechoslovakian wolfdog living in our kennel.

My kennel name is a tribute to the ancient Sumerian culture - the cradle of human civilization. Dingir-ra means 'of the Gods' in Sumerian and refers to the divine capability of these charming little dogs to lift your spirits, however down you might be.

Our dogs are all full members of our family, they live in our cozy little house with huge garden with us and are family pets first, no matter how long the line of titles go before their names. We don't have many litters and a lot of work and effort is put into socializing the puppies in every possible way. The whole family is involved in raising a litter. Along with looks and character, my priority in breeding is health. All our dogs are regularly health checked (hearts, eyes and patellas), we DNA-test all our dogs for CC/DE, EF and DM before making any plans for mating, and all our breeding dogs are MRI scanned for SM. There are great opportunities for this in Estonia, Lithuania and Finland these days and there is no excuse for not scanning all cavaliers before mating.

I am a true cavalier fan and always happy to chat about this wonderful little breed. Don't hesitate to step up and say hello at any show or event. Visitors are always welcome in our house - but do let me know if you want to step by, so I know when to be home.

I speak Estonian, English and a bit of German.

Sincerely,
Reelika Reinomägi
